My mom and I and brother and sister-in-law celebrated Mother's Day in 2006 on a Mediterranean cruise on the Carnival Liberty, and my mother and I celebrated Mother's Day 2005 on the Crystal Symphony. We were back in the Mediterranean in May 2007 for a cruise on the Emerald Princess. For 2008, we are home for Mother's Day, but will be cruising with the family again in June. Isn't a Mother's Day Cruise a great idea?
One of the things I like best about cruising is the variety of activities for all age groups. If you are traveling with your mom, a cruise will allow you to share lots of experiences, but still easily give you time apart to pursue different interests. Many of us baby boomers have aging parents, and the gift they love and appreciate the most is time with their children.
I have cruised extensively with my mother, and each trip has been memorable. We have sailed on ships of all sizes and enjoyed them all. We have sailed the Caribbean, Egypt, Morocco, Australia, the Mediterranean, northern Europe, the China and the Yangtze River, Japan, South America, the islands of SE Asia, and the great rivers of Europe.
My mother is the best travel companion ever--she likes doing everything, usually goes along with what I want to do, and never wants to be left out. For example, just a few months before her 80th birthday in 2005, she climbed 150+ steps to the top of the Holmenkollen Ski Jump in Oslo, Norway! The view was worth the climb, but we were both winded at the top.
